The Buenos Aires City airport, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, will shut down between Tuesday and Thursday next week due to maintenance work on the runways.
All flights to and from the city between 9 a.m., August 25, and 4 p.m., August 27, will operate out of Ezeiza International Airport.
According to the airport operator Aeropuertos Argentina, the dates were chosen because it is during this timeframe that the least amount of flights take place compared to the rest of the week.
Ezeiza, which usually operates around 530 flights during these days, will see an 80% growth, jumping to 940 flights during the 55 hours in which Aeroparque will remain closed.
If you have a scheduled flight during those days, be sure to make proper arrangements to get to Ezeiza. The distance between Buenos Aires City and Ezeiza is around 35 kilometers, meaning that a car ride can take between 45 minutes and an hour and a half depending on traffic.
Aeroparque works
The maintenance work set to be done next week is a part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project Aeroparque has been enduring for the past few years. The first stage of the project, which entails an US$85 million investment, was completed in June 2026.
During that stage, the area known as “Plataforma Norte” was enlarged in order to allow more operational space for airplanes; the domestic-flight register zone and the center hall for check-in were expanded, as well as the terminal for international arrivals.
The second stage, which is starting now and will continue throughout the rest of the year, will be geared toward improving the area for domestic boarding, incorporating technological changes in order to reduce check-in and registration times, and the construction of a new VIP lounge
There will also be more shopping space and dining options, with Bis Café (helmed by chef Gonzalo Aramburu, owner of the only Argentine restaurant with two Michelin stars) and Outback Steakhouse as the highlights of the new additions.
